Doha International Airport (DIA) today announced it has continued to increase its monthly passenger numbers, with 13.85% more people travelling through its doors in March 2014 versus March 2013. A total of 2,129,639 travellers departed, transferred and arrived into Qatar during March, reinforcing Doha’s importance as an international transport hub.
Cargo numbers also remained buoyant with an additional 14.83% traffic year on year. As Qatar Airways Cargo grows its global freight business, it continues to enhance its cargo facility and unique transport offering, offering premium and innovative products such as QR Pharma and QR Fresh, DIA said in a statement.
In addition, inbound mail traffic increased through Doha International Airport by 9.33% compared to March 2013 and aircraft movements grew by 7.83% year-on-year.
Abdulaziz Al-Mass, Senior Public Relations and Communications Manager, at DIA said: “As Qatar enters an exciting new chapter in aviation, it’s poignant we’ve seen more than six million passengers come through DIA’s door this year already. With an ever-growing airport portfolio, this year will see our regional and international travellers enjoy the best possible experience, whether they are departing, arriving or travelling onwards.” To ensure passengers are provided with a comfortable, safe and enjoyable travel experience, DIA management has implemented a range of measures to significantly improve its infrastructure and manage capacity. This includes additional check-in gates, more aircraft parking bays and expanded terminal facilities.
Doha International Airport, which in 2013, handled more than 23.2 million passengers, has undergone a dramatic change over the past three years, virtually doubling in size to cope with the huge demand for air travel to and from Qatar, spearheaded by the huge infrastructure improvements taking place in the country.
Hamad International Airport is the world’s newest aviation hub, a world-class facility that is set to exceed expectations and redefine the passenger and transit experience.
Positioned at the edge of the Arabian Gulf, Hamad International Airport’s tranquil waterside setting provides a perfect backdrop for its stylish architectural elements, underpinned by advanced airport systems. It features two runways, among the longest in the world, a state-of-the-art air traffic control tower, a stunning passenger terminal with an initial design capacity of 30 million passengers per year, over 40,000 square meters of combined retail, food and beverage facilities and a uniquely shaped public mosque.
