MENA Mobile, a pioneering company specializing in mobile game design and publishing and based in Abu Dhabi’s twofour54 innovation centre, is launching the Middle East’s first Pokémon Go-style augmented reality mobile game. To be released in April 2021, the storyline is inspired by “The Thousand and One Nights” and is full of adventure and excitement.

AD Gaming is a collaborative initiative pioneered by twofour54 Abu Dhabi to support all areas of gaming industry growth and aggregate the emirate’s drive to build a thriving gaming and esports ecosystem.

The game has been designed and developed by more than 150 game design professionals and includes maps from different regional cities including Abu Dhabi. 3D designs both fantastical and realistic showcase the city’s beauty. Players can explore these landmarks through physical travel or hop aboard their magic carpet in order to journey across the world of the “Arabian Nights.”

As part of the game’s Ramadan launch, a total of AED 1,500,000of prizes awaits players, in addition to an additional “jackpot” prize of AED 3,670,000($1M USD). All of these are available to UAE nationals, residents, and visitors who download the game and search for treasures, unlock secrets, make friends, and fight monsters.

This game is among many games designed and developed by MENAMobile, including the popular strategy game “Salah Al-Din – War of Gold”.

Mr Baker Ma, founder and CEO of MENA Mobile, said: “We are thrilled about our new game as it adds the pleasure of moving around the city and making actual friendships, in addition to the winning of prizes”.

He added: “The secret behind choosing ‘The Thousand and OneNights’ as inspiration for the game is that the book is full of amazing adventures and stories that are already well known. We wanted our players to go out into the world and experience these stories for themselves. This is not a game for those who prefer to stay seated in place, but rather for those who are ready to heed the call to adventure in the real world.”

James Hartt, Director of Strategic Partnerships, twofour54, said: “We are delighted at the release of the first location-based game to be launched under the new AD Gaminginitiative. The Government of Abu Dhabi through the AD Gaming initiative actively supports the growth plan of game development studios like Mena Mobile. Helping them to grow their businesses using locally-based talent to produce industry-leading games such as ‘Arabian Nights.

The game will be released on the Google Play store as well as Apple’s App Store. By granting the game access to use their location, players will be able to access all the fun, history, storytelling, and prizes that the game offers its many fans.
