Madinah’s economic landscape is set for a major overhaul as 224 projects drive sustainable growth

Madinah Region is witnessing a wave of transformative development projects across key economic sectors, aimed at driving sustainable growth, enhancing public services, creating quality employment, and accommodating the rising number of pilgrims and Umrah visitors, expected to reach 30 million by 2030.

According to a report by the Madinah Chamber of Commerce and Industry, 224 projects are currently underway, including 15 government initiatives, 10 semi-government projects, and 199 private-sector ventures. These projects cover more than 30 million square metres of investment land, reflecting significant urban expansion and positioning the region as an attractive destination for investors. The total value of the projects exceeds SAR200 billion, highlighting their scale and economic impact.

The commercial sector dominates the development landscape, accounting for 162 projects, or 80% of the total. Other sectors include 20 mixed-use residential and commercial projects, 11 healthcare initiatives, eight residential projects, seven education projects, seven tourism and entertainment ventures, five religious projects, four public utilities projects, and two corporate developments.

The ongoing projects are expected to create 125,722 job opportunities, supporting the government’s efforts to reduce unemployment and increase national workforce participation. These initiatives provide strategic opportunities for the local business community, boost regional investment activity, and contribute to Madinah’s rapid urban and economic transformation.

Collectively, the projects are positioning Madinah as a modern economic hub, enhancing the quality of life for residents and visitors alike, while strengthening the region’s competitiveness in local and international markets.
