President of the Republic of Macedonia Georgi Ivanov invited Qatari businessmen to visit his country and explore investment opportunities there, saying that Macedonia ensures an attractive investment climate for foreign businessmen.

Ivanov was speaking at a meeting organized by Qatar Chamber of Commerce and Industry (QCCI) for the Macedonian president and his accompanying delegation in the presence of QCCI Chairman HE Sheikh Khalifa bin Jassim Al-Thani and a number of Qatari businessmen.

The visiting president expressed great interest in strengthening bilateral trade and investment relations between his country and the State of Qatar, stressing that the promotion of joint trade is a key pillar in the promotion of bilateral relations, which in turn ensures prosperous economies for the benefit of the peoples.

He gave a presentation that touched on Macedonia’s potentials that would make it of interest to the Qatari side, pointing to the agricultural environment and the active business sector in the fields of water and livestock farming. He added that his country is also active in the technology sector but stressed that investment in the agriculture and water sectors is Macedonia’s main interest though.

The Macedonian president said his country has enacted a legislation that facilitates the access of foreign investments to Macedonia, particularly those of foreign investors to ensure successful investment and the advancement of common interests.

He also expressed hope for Qatar Airways to operate direct flights between his country and Australia, which will serve more than 200,000 passengers.

HE Sheikh Khalifa bin Jassim Al-Thani said QCCI will soon send a delegation of Qatari businessmen to Macedonia, pointing that this visit will be coordinated for the Qatari businessmen to identify potential investment opportunities there.

He pointed that Qatar is attractive for foreign investments and major investors from all countries thanks to its open economy and major development projects.

Sheikh Khalifa bin Jassim welcomed the Macedonian president and his accompanying delegation and expressed hope that their visit would bring positive outcomes for the benefit of both countries.

He pointed that many international delegations visit Qatar with the aim to promote investment and mutual trade exchange. On Saturday, the Slovenian president will visit Qatar Chamber, while in March, it will receive a German delegation that includes deputy prime minister, he added.

He explained that Qatar is executing large projects in different areas, especially the infrastructure for hosting the 2022 FIFA World Cup, which opens the way for investors who wish to come to the country, noting that Qatar hosting of the 2015 Handball World Championship is testament to its ability and willingness to organize the 2022 showpiece.
