Strong bilateral relations and mutual keenness on furthering cooperation and exchange between Kuwait and Japan are evident at times of trial, such as the March 11, 2011 quake and tsunami disaster that rattled Japan, when the Kuwaiti people and government rushed to help in every way they could.
This sentiment was expressed by Kuwaiti Ambassador here Abdulrahman Humoud Al-Otaibi. The ambassador was on a tour of Hokkaido, June 13-15, along with ambassadors of the Gulf Cooperation Council countries upon invitation of Governor of Hokkaido, Harumi Takahashi.
The aim of the invitation and tour is to bolster cooperation between the GCC bloc and the northern Japanese Prefecture.
The ambassadors had also just taken part in an economic forum on cooperation between the two sides. During the event, the ambassador stressed Kuwait abounds with lucrative investment opportunities and reviewed aspects of the Kuwaiti economy that are attractive to investors.
In addition to the exchange and cooperation in the oil and related sectors, the two nations also cooperate in the scientific, technological, and health spheres as well, he noted.
The economic event the ambassador took part in had been attended by the Japanese Deputy Economy, Trade, and Industry Minister Midori Masushima, Hokkaido Governor Takahashi, mayors of several Hokkaido regions, and over 100 figures from the business and economy sector.
During the visit, the GCC delegation had visited Hokkaido University Hospital in the capital city, Sapporo, and were introduced to the latest methods and technologies used in cancer treatment at the facility, and feasibility of bringing the technology over to the GCC states. There was also a visit to the Hokkaido Islamic Society to see what kind of support could be extended for the benefit of the Muslim community, within the guidelines set by the local authorities.
The embassy seized the opportunity of this gathering and visits and distributed a publication printed in both English and Japanese showcasing the main historical, urban, and economic landmarks of Kuwait and shedding light on investment opportunities in the country. The publication also shed light on the country’s respect of Human rights, women rights, and democratic practices.
