RTA Dubai announces 37% completion of the Al Khawaneej Development Project

H.E Mattar Mohamed Al Tayer, Director General and Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Roads and Transport Authority, announced the completion of 37% of the project to develop the axis of Al Khawaneej Street, which includes the development of three main intersections on Al Khawaneej and Al Omari Street, and the implementation of 23 kilometers of service roads along Al Khawaneej Street and Al Omari Street.

This came during a virtual tour of the project site, during which he viewed visual snapshots of the progress of work in various sites, where improvements to the surface intersection between Al-Khawaneej and Al-Amri Street were completed, as well as improvements to the intersections on Algeria Street in the Al-Warqa area and near the Uptown Mirdif site and the sunrise and sunset of Mirdif, The completion rate for the tunnel works on Al Khawaneej Street was 39%, while the completion rate at the bridge leading to Al Awir was 15%.

His Excellency Matar Mohammed Al Tayer said: “The Al Khawaneej axis development project is one of the most important strategic projects to strengthen the link axes between the Emirates of Dubai and Sharjah through the development of vertical roads linking the Emirates and Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Roads to the airport road, and to absorb the current and expected growth in traffic during The coming years, when the project is completed, the project contributes to reducing the flight time from Emirates Street to Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Street from 25 minutes to 9 minutes, and reducing the waiting time at the intersection of Al Khawaneej Street with Sheikh Zayed Bin Hamdan Al Nahyan Street (Al Khawaneej Roundabout) from 330 seconds to 45 seconds, increase the power Absorptive capacity of the intersection of 8,000 vehicles per hour to 16,000 vehicles per hour, reducing the waiting time at the intersection of Al Khawaneej Road with Alamurde Street (roundabout transfer to a superficial intersection) from 120 seconds to 60 seconds.”

The project includes the implementation of a tunnel on Al Khawaneej Street at its intersection with Sheikh Zayed Bin Hamdan Al Nahyan Street, with a length of 680 meters, the capacity of three tracks in each direction, a surface intersection governed by traffic lights to secure a free and safe transport of traffic on Al Khawaneej Street, and the development of the circle on the intersection of Street Al-Khawaneej with Al-Omari Street for an intersection governed by traffic lights, and the development of the intersection between Al-Omari Street and Emirates Street, by constructing an upper bridge over Emirates Street towards the Al-Aweer area with a length of 201 meters, and the capacity of two tracks in each direction. The project also includes the construction of a pedestrian bridge near Arabian Center on Al Khawaneej Street Besides laying pavement 23 km of service roads along the Khawaneej and Al-Amradi streets, and implementing some improvements to three interchanges on Algeria Street by converting them into intersections controlled by traffic lights, along with work related to the project such as lighting, rainwater drainage, traffic signs, road planning, and safety protection work The Road.

It is worth noting that the development of the axis of Al Khawaneej Street comes after the completion of the authority and the opening of all phases of the Airport Street development project, which included the development of four intersections, namely the Rashidiya intersection, the intersection of Airport Street with Nad Al Hamar Street, the intersection of Marrakesh Street with Airport Street and the intersection of Airport Street with Al Dar Street Al-Bayda, as the Airport Street development project contributed to achieving a great flow of traffic, reducing waiting time and solving the problem of traffic congestion between vehicles, as it comes after the opening of the Tripoli Street axis, which connects Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed and the Emirates streets, along a length of nearly 12 kilometers, Its opening contributed to reducing congestion and facilitating traffic, improving the entrances to Al Warqa and Mirdif areas along Tripoli Street, and raising the level of safety along the axis
