Dubai Chamber’s Sustainability Network recently organized a webinar on ensuring continuity of the supply and distribution chain and protecting workers in light of the challenges businesses are facing due to Covid-19.
The webinar, titled “Covid 19: Responding to the Pandemic to Ensure Supply Chain Continuity and Worker Safety” organised by the Supply Chain Task Force. It aimed at showcasing the impact of COVID-19 on the global supply and distribution network, and identifying any preventive and precautionary measures adopted by the member companies in the working group to ensure continuity of the supply and distribution chain, while maintaining the health of its employees.
This is the 10th session of the Task Force and it addressed sustainable global best practices adopted by companies working in the same field in these exceptional circumstances. The speakers, who were from this task force, reviewed the sustainable plans adopted in their companies to ensure the smoothness and continuity of their work.
Speakers included Dr. Balan Sundarakani, Associate Professor, Supply Chain Management, University of Wollongong, Dubai, Eric Van der List, Procurement and Sourcing, Future Pipe Industries, and Mr. V Satish, Director, Human Resources, Hepworth.
Dr. Belaid Rettab, Chief Economist, Senior Director – Economic Research & Sustainable Business Development Sector, Dubai Chamber, pointed out that the issue of ensuring the continuity of supply, distribution and logistical support chains is one of the important topics to be considered.
Dr. Rettab explained that the Dubai Chamber’s Sustainability Network is constantly discussing the most important sustainable practices in various business sectors, and is committed to spread the knowledge and expertise of members, so that it benefits all. He stressed that promoting awareness of best practices is a priority for the network and its members during this period.
Established by the Chamber’s Centre for Responsible Business (CRB), the Dubai Chamber Sustainability Network serves as the focal point for the business community to share and exchange best practices in implementing CSR and sharing sustainable best practices.
The network provides an opportunity for local companies to interact, learn, share experiences and build on CSR leadership, along with coming up with sustainable solutions for private sector concerns. Its membership has grown to 64 with 17 new companies joining and the establishment of eight task forces in 2019.
The Centre for Responsible Business was established by the Dubai Chamber of Commerce and Industry in 2004 to support and promote corporate social responsibility (CSR) and sustainability.
The Centre’s objective is to engage the Dubai business community in assuming greater responsibility for the emirate’s social and environmental needs. The Centre encourages Dubai Chamber members to implement responsible business practices that contribute to enhancing the performance of their organizations and their competitive capabilities.
