Diriyah Company has announced the awarding of a $244 million contract to build a landmark Grand Mosque as part of its second development phase

Diriyah Company has announced the signing of a joint venture contract worth approximately $244 million (SAR917 million) for the development of the Grand Mosque in Diriyah’s second phase. The contract has been awarded to a consortium between AlMajal AlArabi Group and MAN Enterprise AlSaudia LLC.
The Grand Mosque, designed by the award-winning architectural firm X Architects, will span 12,320 square metres and accommodate up to 11,400 worshippers, with 5,240 inside and 6,160 in the outdoor courtyards.
“The Grand Mosque in the second phase of the Diriyah masterplan will become a proud symbol of an urban development that is being built around the historic birthplace of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia,” said the release, adding that its plaza will host community prayers for significant occasions such as Eid and Ramadan.
Beyond its role as a place of worship, the mosque will function as a vibrant community hub, hosting book fairs, cultural events, and local produce markets on Fridays and weekends. The design also includes dedicated male and female prayer halls, ablution facilities, a library overlooking Wadi Hanifah, and facility management offices.
The Diriyah’s Grand Mosque will feature “a unique architectural style that integrates modern engineering with Najdi-inspired design, featuring distinctive façades, iconic architecture, and an elegant interior design,” said the release.
In alignment with Diriyah’s broader sustainability goals, the mosque is targeting both LEED Gold and Mostadam Gold green building certifications. A key contributor to this will be its use of an innovative 3D mesh system, allowing natural sunlight to permeate the interior while mitigating heat impact—enhancing comfort for worshippers throughout the year.
The mosque will be fully integrated into Diriyah’s smart city infrastructure, connecting all key systems—including water, irrigation, energy monitoring, fire and life safety, and security—to the central Diriyah Operations Centre.
Diriyah Company Group CEO Jerry Inzerillo said: “The Grand Mosque in Diriyah’s second phase will be a landmark place of worship through its serene Najdi-inspired design.”
The Grand Mosque is part of Diriyah’s second development phase and is one of 31 mosques planned within the masterplan, collectively contributing to over 74,300 square metres of dedicated religious space.
This project forms a key part of Diriyah Company’s commitment to preserving cultural heritage while delivering a modern, connected, and sustainable urban environment in line with Saudi Arabia’s Vision 2030.
