IHG Hotels at Dubai Festival City has announced the appointment of veteran hotelier Thomas Schmelter as area general manager, overseeing four properties and the Dubai Festival Arena.
Originally from Germany, Schmelter, according to IHG, will drive the performance of InterContinental, InterContinental Residences Suites, Crowne Plaza, Holiday Inn and Dubai Festival Arena by InterContinental at Dubai Festival City with a total number of 1,600 rooms and more than 10,000 sqm of event venues.
He is a seasoned hotelier and comes to this position with more than 30 years of experience in the hospitality industry within IHG. Schmelter has worked in ten different countries in various senior management roles between corporate offices and hotels. He moved to Dubai from his recent role as Senior Director of operations – South East Asia based in the IHG Singapore corporate office.
