Prof. Najib Al Khaja, Secretary General of Sheikh Hamdan bin Rashid Al Maktoum Award for Medical Sciences, announced that Dubai will host a training course organized by the Austrian “123 Sonography” platform, on the transthoracic echocardiography from 13th to 15th of September at Mina Al Salam hotel in Dubai.
“Holding the course in Dubai comes within the framework of the award’s efforts in supporting the continuing medical education within the U.A.E., and benefiting from the unique global expertise from various medical specialties with the aim of improving the performance of doctors according to the latest international standards”, Prof. Al Khaja said.
From his side, Prof. Thomas Binder, head of echo Lab, Faculty of Medicine, Vienna University and the director of the programme, said: I am so proud to receive the award’s sponsorship to such an interactive program. Hamdan Medical Award plays an important role in improving the performance of the professionals working in the local and regional medical sectors.
Prof. Binder said the practical part of the programme fulfills the needs of the specialized physicians and reviews a number of ultrasound images taken for cardiac patients at the Faculty of Medicine, University of Vienna.
The main topic of the activity is the role of transthoracic echocardiography in the proper diagnosis, taking the right decisions and putting the optimal treatment plan for patients.
“One of the main objectives of the programme is to train doctors on the diagnosis of common and uncommon disorders with echo, understanding cardiac hemodynamic and quantifying cardiac function and valvular heart disease,” he said.
“Among the topics to be discussed are using the ultrasound to assess patients before and after cardiovascular surgery, detect pericardial disease and Clinical decision making based on echo”, he added.
