The opening ceremony of the 3rd International Laboratory Technology Conference and Exhibition

Kuwaiti officials attending an international conference held in Bahrain stressed on Tuesday the importance of lab technology (LabTech) in the oil and petrochemical industries.
The 3rd International Laboratory Technology Conference and Exhibition (LABTECH-2014) was opened in Manama today under the theme “Towards Excellence in Laboratory Management.” The event acquires significance as it reviews latest developments in the field of lab technology and chemical analysis, as a vital element in the refining process, said Ahmad Al-Jimaz, deputy executive chief of the Mina Abdullah Refinery, of the Kuwait National Petroleum Company (KNPC).
Interviewed by KUNA, Al-Jimaz said all KNPC refineries are equipped with modern technology which helps verify the efficiency of a refinery and other production units through examining samples.
For Al-Jimaz, such conferences play an effective role as they offer the latest laboratory technology to cope with the non-stop progress in the field.
Meena Marafi, executive director of the Petroleum Research and Studies Center (PRSC), affiliated to the Kuwait Institute for Scientific Research (KISR), shared the view on the significance of the event to follow up developments of laboratory technology worldwide.
She also referred to the papers to be addressed by participants in the international gathering , which will of course have a positive effect on the industry.
Marafi told KUNA that KISR has submitted papers covering petroleum and nonpetroleum fields, the refining industry and catalysts for discussion.
Bahrain’s Shaikh Ahmed bin Mohammed Al Khalifa, Minister of Finance, Minister in Charge of Oil and Gas Affairs opened LABTECH-2014 earlier today.
The event is organized by the Saudi Arabian International Chemical Sciences Chapter of the American Chemical Society in collaboration with the University of Bahrain and the National Oil and Gas Authority (NOGA, with support of a number of Gulf and global oil companies, as well as extensive participation of interested parties from the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC), region and world over.
