The mail sector in the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) member states is greatly developing, a senior Kuwaiti communication official said here on Sunday.
“The mail sector in the GCC is witnessing a quantum leap in the development of services offered to the public and facilitated delivery of letters and parcels,” Undersecretary of the Ministry of Communications Hameed Al-Qattan said while opening the 28th meeting of GCC post chiefs.
He added that the conferees will mainly discuss a joint postage stamp exhibition and Gulf participation in an international postage stamp exhibition.
The two-day meeting will also consider single procurement mechanisms for post equipment and supplies as part of a Gulf tender in order to save effort and money and to ensure relevant uniform specifications, he said.
The agenda of the meeting includes a new excellent post product, called Gulf Express, to be made in line with international criteria and specifications, together with a relevant monthly follow-up mechanism, he pointed out.
On his part, Assistant Secretary-General of the GCC for Economic Affairs Abdullah Al-Shebli said the meeting will focus on operational and regulatory matters pertinent to the Gulf post sectors.
The event will also consider Gulf coordination at international organizations such as the Universal Postal Union with a view to sharing visions and opinions in this regard, along with a joint plan of action for Gulf postal reforms, he added.
