Burjeel Hospital, Abu Dhabi’s leading tertiary care facility, introduces one of the latest and most advanced technologies in Cardiac Surgery: the eSVS Meshin coronary artery bypass grafting (CABG) surgery.

According to World Heart Federation, globally heart diseases are the leading cause of death in both men and women, and in the UAE one in five deaths are attributed to heart attacks. The eSVS Mesh is adevice put around the veins to make them stronger. With this system in place, the expectation is that it will extend the time that patientsneed to come back for a second surgery. Better yet, the doctors hope it will completely eliminate the need for a second surgery.

Dr. Manny Villafana, CEO, KIPS Bay and the inventor of the eSVS Mesh technique added in his recent visit to Burjeel Hospital, “The eSVS Mesh technique will change the way all Cardiac Surgeries are done. The technique helps all cardiac patients to have a longer and healthier life without the need to worry about heart failure. I am confident that this revolutionary technique will be implemented not just in the UAE and the Middle East region, but across the world as well.”

Prof. Dr. Uwe Klima – a Cardiac, Thoracic, and Vascular Surgeon at Burjeel Hospital in Abu Dhabiisthe first surgeon worldwide to implant this device in human patientsin 2007. He is also the first to perform this surgery in the Middle East and holds the exclusive rights for the medical device and treatment in the region.

Prof. Dr. Klima stated, “This technique was developed to increase the time span of the relapse. We hope that patients undergoing this proceduremight not have to come back for a second round of surgery for at least 15 years after their first surgery. We even hope for eliminating the need for a second surgery.”

Mr. Clancey Po, CEO – Burjeel Hospital said, “We arehonored to have Dr. Klima as one of Burjeel Hospital’s lead cardiac surgeons. We have introduced this new technique to continue the hospital’s strategy ofprovidingthe most advanced techniques, technologies and equipment possible in addition to our constant focus towards clinical excellence and on providing 7-star hospitality service. Our aim is to become UAE’s preferredhealthcare provider and we will continue to work hard towards this goal.”

So far, Burjeel Hospital is the only hospital in Abu Dhabi that uses eSVS technique. This announcement aligns with the Burjeel Hospital vision of delivering exemplary medical care by using international medical expertise and cutting edge technology to provide the best to their patients.
