Abu Dhabi to host second edition of EcoWaste in January 2015

Abu Dhabi is gearing up to host the second edition of EcoWaste in January 2015. Organised as part of the Abu Dhabi Sustainability Week, ADSW, the event will address critical topics on recycling and effective waste collection.

In addition to workshops and brainstorming sessions, EcoWaste 2015 will include a meeting of the Municipalities of the Gulf Cooperation Council. In line with the goals outlined in the Abu Dhabi Economic Vision 2030, the meeting will draw out the participation of public and private sector players in the region towards encouraging innovation in the waste management sector.

Running from 17th – 24th January, ADSW, co-hosted by Masdar and Tadweer (Center of Waste Management – Abu Dhabi), seeks holistic solutions for challenges in water conservation, renewable energy and waste management. The initiative, organised by Reed Exhibitions, is expected to draw more than 2,000 buyers and key industry experts as well as 50 leading companies from all around the world to deliberate on international policies and best practices for ensuring a clean and green future.

Dr. Sultan Ahmed Al Jaber, the Chairman of Masdar, said, “We launched ADSW as part of our efforts to position Abu Dhabi as a leading contributor to global sustainability. The event serves as a unique platform to stimulate debate on critical sustainability issues and solutions across all industries.

“EcoWaste represents an important addition to ADSW. We believe that encouraging dialogue on effective waste disposal and sustainable recycling will significantly expand the potential for renewable energy generation.” Dr. Al Jaber added, “The critical timing of ADSW helps EcoWaste attract the participation of key waste management industry players. The event will particularly address the challenge of increasing waste levels in the region and look to offer inventive and environmentally friendly solutions. Our efforts will focus on highlighting the Emirate of Abu Dhabi as one of the most environmentally responsible cities in the world for its adoption of sustainable development practices across diverse sectors.” Eisa Saif Al Qubaisi, General Manager of Tadweer, said, “The second edition of EcoWaste aims to support the region’s urgent waste disposal challenges. As part of Tadweer’s strategic vision, we seek to integrate the latest industry practices for achieving an ideal waste management mechanism. Our ultimate goal is to highlight the unprecedented development across all industries that Abu Dhabi, and the U.A.E. as a whole, has achieved. Through providing a healthy and clean environment, we aim to contribute to Abu Dhabi’s development plan of becoming an environmentally responsible city for its adoption of sustainable development practices across diverse sectors.” Hani Hosni, Committee Chairman, EcoWaste, said, “EcoWaste 2015 will bring together regional and international experts from both the private and public sectors to network and exchange insights. The platform will offer an excellent opportunity for participants to build business in a rapidly growing industry in the Middle East region.” Frederic Theux, President, Reed Exhibitions, said that while Abu Dhabi produces six million tons a year of solid waste, this number is estimated to quintuple to 30 million tons considering the projected urban growth of the emirate.

EcoWaste joins forces with the World Future Energy Summit (WFES) and the International Water summit (IWS) to promote the interconnectivity between energy, water and waste for a sustainable future. The fifth assembly of the International Renewable Energy Agency and the seventh Zayed Future Energy Prize Awards Ceremony will also take place during ADSW.
