QP-Offshore Operations hosted and organized “World day for Safety and Health at Work” on 28 April 2014, in Halul Island. The opening speech from Operations Manager (Offshore Fields) Mr. Mubarak A. Al-Hajri, was followed with a video message on the occasion by HE Dr Mohammed bin Saleh Al-Sada, Minister of Energy and Industry and Chairman & Managing Director of Qatar Petroleum.
His Excellency Dr Al-Sada, told the event that World Safety Day is a major component of efforts to promote the Health and Safety cultures at work.
HE the Minister said the theme “Safety and Health in the use of chemicals at work” is quite relevant to life in today’s world. “The production of chemicals and the ensuing use in the workplace and at home, constitutes a formidable challenge for any preventative safety and health program,” His Excellency added.
Dr Al-Sada stressed the need to prevent unsafe or unnecessary exposures to chemicals at the workplace. “This requires transparent, comprehensive, and effective risk management strategies based on appropriate scientific understanding of health effects, risk elimination, and detailed safety information”, His Excellency concluded.
The event was attended by QP-JV’s Partners “TEPQ, OPQL” and contractors working at QP Offshore locations.
Recognition awards to personnel were also included in the day’s program, followed by rescue exercise by QP-Offshore Operations Safety and Fire team along with QP-Medical team at Halul terminal.
QP regards the celebration of the World Day for Safety and Health at Work as a key event in its calendar to ensure a sustainable work environment free of occupational risks, resulting in a positive impact on its productivity. The day provides an opportunity to highlight QP’s efforts to foster preventive safety and health culture to workers.
The World Day for Safety and Health at Work is held annually on 28 April and has been observed by the International Labor Organization (ILO) since 2003. April 28th has also long been associated with the world’s trade union movement’s commemoration of the victims of occupational accidents and diseases.
