Hilton Maldives Powers Up Sustainability With New Solar System

Hilton Maldives Amingiri Resort & Spa has just taken a major step toward a greener future
This initiative is part of Hilton Maldives Amingiri Resort & Spa’s broader environmental responsibilities

Hilton Maldives Amingiri Resort & Spa has commissioned a new rooftop solar photovoltaic (PV) and battery system expected to generate approximately 1.14 million kilowatt-hours of clean electricity annually. The system is estimated to avoid around 848 metric tons of carbon dioxide emissions and reduce diesel consumption by approximately 321,000 liters per year, which is the equivalent of eliminating pollution generated from 3.9 million kilometers of car travel.

“Reducing diesel use while delivering a great stay is a priority for us,” said Andreas Justkowiak, general manager of Hilton Maldives Amingiri Resort & Spa. “Our new solar and battery system is expected to meet more of our daytime energy needs from renewables, strengthen operational resilience, and create more sustainable stays our guests can feel good about.”

Installed across multiple rooftops in the heart of house, the 770-kilowatt-peak (kWp) PV array is paired with a 540-kWh battery system to stabilize the grid and enable daytime operation with one generator instead of two.

Delivered in partnership with Swimsol, a solar energy provider operating across the Maldives, the project includes 1,573 heavy-duty, high-efficiency panels designed in close collaboration with the resort’s engineering team to suit island conditions and operational needs.

“We are very proud to support Hilton Maldives Amingiri Resort & Spa in its transition to cleaner energy. With the completion of this project, three Hilton properties in Maldives, including Conrad Maldives Rangali Island and Waldorf Astoria Maldives Ithaafushi, are producing a substantial amount of their daytime power demand with a solar system from Swimsol,” said Martin Putschek, Managing Director of Swimsol.

The project was developed together with AMIN Construction Pvt. Ltd., owners of the resort. “This installation marks our unwavering commitment to reducing the environmental impact of our operations and embracing renewable energy solutions. By harnessing solar energy, we are reducing our carbon footprint and also reaffirming our commitment to responsible tourism in the Maldives,” said Ahmed Izuan, Managing Director of Amingiri Holdings Pvt. Ltd.

This initiative is part of Hilton Maldives Amingiri Resort & Spa’s broader environmental responsibilities, including marine conservation, water stewardship, waste management and community engagement, in line with Hilton’s Travel with Purpose strategy. Across Hilton, the company focuses on improving energy efficiency, reducing water use and waste, promoting biodiversity, and sourcing responsibly, supported by accountability and transparency through LightStay, the company’s industry-leading sustainability data management platform.
