HE Minister of Energy and Industry Dr. Mohammed bin Saleh Al Sada on Wednesday opened the new state-of-the-art headquarters of ConocoPhillips Qatar that highlights the relationships the company has created in Qatar and illustrates its vision to be the exploration and production partner of choice by sharing world class technologies and expertise.
HE U.S. Ambassador to Qatar Dana Shell Smith attended the ceremony along with Matt Fox, ConocoPhilips executive vice president for exploration and production.
Speaking during the event, Fox addressed the company’s long term relationship in Qatar, expressing pleasure to move “safely and without incident” to the new office, noting that early next year the company will “celebrate 10 years of an incident and injury free workplace environment here in Doha.” In turn, ConocoPhillips Qatar President Gary Sykes welcomed attendees to the event, saying that the new headquarters is “an affirmation to our long-term commitment to the country as we continue to be a major contributor and supporter to the energy sector” in Qatar. “The innovative and world-class design of our offices is all part of our desire to create an environment that is very safe and conducive to productivity, and is something we at ConocoPhillips are extremely proud of.” ConocoPhillips started its collaboration with Qatar Petroleum in 2003 through the development of Qatargas 3, a large-scale liquefied natural gas (LNG) project in Ras Laffan Industrial City with a capacity of 7.8 million tons per annum (mta). ConocoPhillips holds a 30 percent interest in this integrated project, comprising approximately 1.4 gross billion cubic feet per day (BCFD) of natural gas production over the 25 year life span of gas and condensate combined from Qatar’s North field. To capture cost savings, Qatargas3 executed the development of the onshore and offshore assets as a single integrated project with Qatargas4. This included the joint development of offshore facilities situated in a common offshore block in the North field.
“In 2003, ConocoPhillips began its valuable partnerships in Qatar, following the signing of a heads of agreement with Qatar Petroleum. This December will mark a very important milestone; we are approaching our 10 year anniversary since the establishment of Qatar gas3. QG3 is a valuable asset to our company with superior performance. We remain committed to this strong performance and have found Qatar to be a partner of choice, just as we strive to be to them,” Sykes said.
In Qatar, ConocoPhillips also operates its Global Water Sustainability Center (GWSC), the company’s designated center of excellence for all water-related research and development. The center is located in the heart of the Qatar Science and Technology Park and performs a vital role in corporate social responsibility through its program of school visits designated to raise water conservation awareness among students.
ConocoPhillips is the world’s largest independent exploration and production company based on production and proved reserves. Headquartered in Houston, Texas, it had operations and activities in 25 countries, $31 billion in annualized revenue and $106 billion of total assets.
