enstory1439bA delegation from Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) has participated in a workshop in India to highlight the latest technological solutions and exchange expertise in Photovoltaic (PV) panels.

The DEWA delegation reviewed the achievements of the Research and Development department in testing panels, its environmental impact, and the significance of adopting global standards in designing them.

“DEWA is keen to participate in such international events to share expertise with leading international players in the fields of PV panels, especially since DEWA is playing a pivotal role in this area. Last March, DEWA began activating the first smart initiative, Shams Dubai, to regulate the generation of solar energy in buildings and their connection to DEWA’s grid. The move supports the Smart Dubai initiative launched by His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, and implements Council Resolution Number 46 of 2014, issued by HH Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai and Chairman of Dubai Executive Council, to enable customers to install photovoltaic panels to generate electricity from solar power in buildings, and connect them to DEWA’s grid,” said Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, MD & CEO of DEWA.

DEWA delegation was headed by Dr. Hassan Qasem, who spoke at the Workshop on PV Module Reliability in Hot Climates workshop organised by The National Centre for Photovoltaic Research and Education (NCPRE), the National Institute of Solar Energy (NISE), The Solar Energy Research Institute for India and the United States (SERIIUS), and The National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL).

This workshop highlighted the durability of PV panels on the long term, especially in warmer climates. The workshop evaluated field data available from many operators around the world. This workshop comes at a time when there is a global accelerated spread of solar PV-panel use, which gives substantial support to the production of clean energy.
