ADNOC Distribution has launched an awareness drive to highlight the environmental benefits of the new high quality diesel product produced by Abu Dhabi Oil Refining Company (Takreer) and distributed by ADNOC Distribution’s service station network across the U.A.E.

The new low-sulfur diesel product is aimed at creating a cleaner environment and significantly improving public health while offering better performance for vehicle engines. ADNOC Distribution rolled out the product in the U.A.E. market beginning July 2014 following the U.A.E. Cabinet’s decision to standardize the specifications of diesel products in line with the updated guidelines of Emirates Authority for Standardization and Metrology (ESMA).

The new product, which conforms to the European emission standards (EURO V), offers tremendous benefits to vehicle and engine manufacturers by allowing mechanical components to work more efficiently. It also improves the durability of engines, and is compatible with vehicles that work both on old or new diesel products.

Abdullah Salem Al Dhaheri, CEO, ADNOC Distribution, said, “At ADNOC Distribution, we recognise our responsibility to implement all measures and standards that achieve environmental sustainability and preservation in coordination with relevant stakeholders. By offering the new low-sulfur diesel product that conforms to the latest international standards, we stand by our commitment towards environmental protection and public safety.” Jasem Ali Al Sayegh, CEO, Abu Dhabi Oil Refining Company (Takreer), said, “The production of low-sulfur diesel is aligned with the government’s vision to improve the specifications of fuel products to the latest international standards. It also reflects ADNOC’s priority to maximise environmental benefits by producing clean fuel and achieving sustainability.” “Takreer has built new refining units as well as upgraded existing capacities to produce low-sulfur and environmentally friendly diesel that contains less than 10 milligrams of sulfur per kilogram, in line with the specifications and guidelines announced by the U.A.E. in this regard. By introducing the new product into the U.A.E. market, we have achieved another milestone by making the U.A.E. the first country in the GCC and Middle East to switch to green diesel,” Al Sayegh added.

The new diesel product contains less than 10 milligrams of sulfur per kilogram and has replaced the old product that contained more than 500 mg of sulfur per kilogram. This reduction in sulfur levels will significantly cut down carbon emissions from vehicles as well as the discharge of exhaust gases.
