The Telecommunication Regulatory Authority, TRA, has confirmed its full support for the second annual United Arab Emirates Undergraduate Student Research Competition (UGSRC).

Held under the patronage of Sheikh Hamdan bin Mubarak Al Nahyan, Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, the competition seeks to enhance research skills and both critical and analytical thinking of the U.A.E.’s undergraduate students. The first of its kind in the U.A.E., the competition takes place at Abu Dhabi University.

“The ICT sector is witnessing remarkable growth in the modern era and much of this progressive trend is the direct result of research and development initiatives. We fully recognise the significance of research and development and the critical role it plays in achieving the U.A.E.’s ambitious national targets,” said Mohamed Nasser Al Ghanim, TRA Director-General.

“We also recognise the need to both support and encourage Emirati students to excel at university and supply their innovative contribution to the R’&’D sector and ultimately, the formation of a true knowledge based economy,” he added.

With a focus on Emirati youth, UGSRC 2014 aims to foster a culture of innovation and creativity among U.A.E. students as well as providing them with the necessary support to effectively contribute to the U.A.E.’s state-of-the-art scientific research sector.
