Shalini Misra transforms the cabin into a flying showcase of heritage craft and contemporary innovation

Shalini Misra, a globally renowned interior designer, the founder of Curio Space and Shakti Design Residency, unveils her first-ever jet interior design – a showcase of revolutionary transformation honouring traditional craftsmanship and modern aviation requirements. Celebrated for her unique approach to exquisite details in residential designs, this project highlights these intricacies with a fusion of technology and innovation. Conceptualised by the visionary Shalini Misra Design studio, this design transcends classic aircraft aesthetics to showcase global artisanal excellence and contemporary nuances.
Crafted with the support of AeroVisto and QCM, the design is a fusion of technical details and modern sophistication, inspired by the client’s life, interests and appreciation for art and crafts. Going beyond a standard refurbishment, the interior of the cabin tells a story where every surface, material, and detail is carefully reimagined and renewed. It highlights AeroVisto’s comprehensive approach towards precise timing, quality standards, and aviation certification and QCM’s research on design viability with an aviation context. This allowed Misra’s creative vision to flourish while maintaining the technical rigour essential for aircraft certification. From hand-crafted wallpapers to contemporary carpets, every aspect narrates a journey of culture and heritage.
Anchoring the design lies a bespoke hand-painted wallpaper by De Gournay that transforms bulkheads and doors into immersive works of art. Each section is conceived as a one-of-a-kind composition, an artistic expression that cannot be replicated. Adding a layer of cultural craftsmanship, a custom hand-knotted carpet by Jaipur Rugs introduces an elegant interplay of soft hues and intricate patterns, enriching the refined aesthetic of the cabin.
The design also incorporates exquisite marquetry from England, where traditional wood inlay techniques are reinterpreted through precision and modern sensibility. Each piece is crafted into geometric and floral patterns, in harmony with the overall visual rhythm of the space. Advanced decor film technology adds to these artisanal elements, capturing the warmth and texture of natural wood while ensuring long-lasting durability and a seamless finish.
Shalini Misra’s design philosophy reaches new expression through the innovative use of upholstery as a defining element of the interior. Fabric and leather move beyond conventional applications, extending to monument faces, cabinet fronts, and details that unify the cabin’s visual narrative. The credenza features leather-clad door fronts with precision stitching and carefully coordinated material pairings, underscoring a commitment to craftsmanship and cohesion.
A balanced palette brings the interior to life, where creamy base tones create a calm foundation and warm caramel accents and subtle blue-grey contrasts lend depth and refinement. Each detail, from the tactile quality of the armrests to the elegant piping, reflects an intentional, considered design language. Premium polished nickel hardware enhances the overall aesthetic with a lasting, timeless finish. The use of Calacatta Oro marble across the entrance, galley, lavatory, and crew rest areas further elevates the space, embodying Shalini Misra’s vision of translating luxury into lived experience.
“The completed project demonstrates what is achievable when precise engineering and innovative design coalesce to create experiences that respect traditional craftsmanship while satisfying the demanding requirements of contemporary flight”, says Shalini Misra, Founder of Shalini Misra Design. “The jet has been designed in the same spirit as our residential projects — highly personalised, exquisitely crafted, and realised with uncompromising attention to detail.”
