RTA and UK’s Bim Car Holding Limited to develop suspended transport units

His Excellency Mattar Mohamed Al Tayer, Director General and Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Roads and Transport Authority, and His Excellency Chris Heaton Harris, Minister of State for Transport in the United Kingdom, witnessed the signing of a cooperation agreement between the Roads and Transport Authority and Bim Car Holding Limited, one of the leading companies in the development of outstanding transport systems at the level of The world, within the framework of cooperation to provide future mobility solutions, by developing the suspended transport units that operate with suspended transport systems technology, which guarantees speed, safety and savings in resources.

The agreement was signed by Mr. Abdul Mohsen Ibrahim Yunus, CEO of the Rail Agency, and on behalf of BimCar, Robin Bronsell, CEO of the company, in the presence of His Excellency Andrew Jackson, the British Consul General in Dubai, and a number of managers at the Authority.

According to the agreement, the company develops suspended transport units, which are a future transportation system for transportation in the Emirate of Dubai, and is characterized by the use of a land area several times less compared to traditional systems of the same capacity, as well as energy efficiency, small size and light weight, and moves with steel wheels on suspended rails.

His Excellency Mattar Mohammed Al Tayer said: The agreement comes within the framework of the efforts of the Roads and Transport Authority to provide self-driving transportation, a translation of the Dubai strategy for smart self-driving, which aims to convert 25% of the total mobility trips in Dubai to self-driving trips through various means of transportation by the year 2030, it also comes within the framework of the authority’s endeavors to achieve integration between mass transportation, and to provide a short trip service (the first and last mile) that helps mass transportation users reach their final destination.

Strengthening cooperation

During his meeting with His Excellency Chris Heaton Harris, Minister of State for Transport in the United Kingdom, His Excellency Mattar Al Tayer, Director General and Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Authority, discussed ways to enhance cooperation and exchange of experiences between the Roads and Transport Authority and its counterpart in the United Kingdom, in the areas of operating train systems, and self-driving transportation, And control systems, as well as reviewing the authority’s plan to develop these areas.

Al Tayer welcomed at the beginning of the meeting the British Minister and his accompanying delegation, praising the partnership and cooperation relations that link the Roads and Transport Authority with the British institutions and companies working in the field of transportation and transportation systems.

His Excellency briefed the British delegation on the experiences conducted by the authority on self-driving air taxis, and operational requirements that include laws and policies related to the operation of air taxis, where the authority coordinates with federal and local aviation authorities, to discuss the development of relevant legislation and policies, to define routes and airways, and design take-off points Landing and landing, determining safety and security specifications and standards for air taxis, and briefed him on the flexible mobility project to develop an infrastructure that is friendly to all, and integrated by strengthening the link between development projects and attractions using M unconventional means of transportation such as walking, bicycles and (electric scooters), and the development of requirements for the first and last mile, as well as the efforts of the authority to implement bicycle paths that are currently 425 km long, and are expected to rise to reach about 647 km by 2023.

For his part, His Excellency Chris Harris praised the great development witnessed in the infrastructure of mass transportation in Dubai, as well as the high operational efficiency of Dubai Metro and the accuracy of commitment to the dates of trips, expressing his pleasure with the participation of British institutions and companies in the implementation of RTA projects, and his aspiration to enhance cooperation and exchange experiences To serve both sides.

Harris said: “I was delighted to be present at the signing of the Memorandum of Understanding between the RTA and Pim Car Holding Limited as this cooperation will provide an opportunity to assess the feasibility of the pending transport system based on the company’s unique experience. This step is another example of the UK’s ongoing commitment to forge partnerships With the United Arab Emirates through a wide variety of technologies and innovations.
