The Public Works Authority ‘Ashghal’ has announced the opening of Jasim Bin Mohammed Street and two lanes of Al Rayyan road to traffic.
Both roads are part of Al Rayyan road upgrade project which includes upgrade of roads stretching from east of Bani Hajer roundabout to east of Al Diwan Street intersection, Al Rayyan Al Qadeem street starting from Al Rayyan Park until Huwar Street and Bu Erayyen Street between Al Rayyan Road and Al Rayyan Al Qadeem street, said a press release issued here on Wednesday.
With the opening of Jasim Bin Mohammed Street, road users will be able to use the street including Al Koot Fort, Al Jasra and Al Diwan signals between Al Corniche Street and Souq Waqif. It will also allow the traffic coming from Al Najada Souq to turn right to access Al Corniche Street and Al Najada Street and Msheireb Downtown Doha through Al Rayyan Road.

As part of a comprehensive development plan that will be implemented over four phases, the Jasim Bin Mohammed Street upgrade project will enhance the complete Al Rayyan Road stretching from Bani Hajer intersection to Souq Waqif intersection including some sections of connecting roads such as Jasim Bin Mohammed Street, Jawaan Street, Bu Erayyen Street and Al Furousiya street.
The Authority has already completed the phase related to Jasim Bin Mohammed Street and Old Diwan intersection on Al Rayyan Road. This phase extends across 1.5 km and connects several vital commercial areas such as Souq Waqif and Msheireb Downtown Doha project which is currently in progress.
The main construction works on this phase is nearly completed while the landscaping, services and sidewalks are currently being completed without causing any impact on the existing traffic flow in the area.
Jasim Bin Mohammed Street and Al Rayyan Road upgrade project aims to enhance accesses to Souq Waqif and other commercial entities in the surrounding area. The project will add an aesthetic touch that preserves the architectural and cultural character of the area.
Earlier this year, in March Ashghal awarded the contract for phases one and two of the project. The last phase of the project is currently in tendering process with work expected to start later this year.
The project is part of Ashghals’ Expressway Programme that will provide vital highway links across Qatar connecting key cities, towns and villages. Delivering more than 34 major projects with over 980 kilometres of new roads, multi-level interchanges, an array of underpasses and flyovers, the programme will enable free-flowing traffic and improved journey times to meet the social and economic developments and future needs of Qatar.
