Al GharbiyaThe Western Region Development Council (WRDC) has said that it will award a number of new development projects at the second annual Al Gharbia Development Forum (AGDF), which will be held on May 20th, 2014 at the St. Regis Saadiyat Island Resort, Abu Dhabi.

The projects that will be awarded cover a total combined area of nearly 600,000 square meters, which include 450,000 square meters of tourism projects; 48,000 square meters of real estate projects and 98,000 square meters of industrial sector projects.

Mohamed Hamad bin Azzan Al Mazrouei, Acting Undersecretary of the Ruler’s Representative Court in the Western Region and Director General of the Western Region Development Council, said “The Al Gharbia Development Forum is the only one day event dedicated to Al Gharbia, the Western Region of Abu Dhabi, which provides the ultimate platform for entrepreneurs and investors wanting to find out more about the region’s key developments, and the business and investment opportunities that lie within. In addition, it provides attendees with the opportunity to network with the key decision makers and the government and private sector entities involved in working and driving the development of this ever evolving and vast region. WRDC will also utilise this forum to award a number of vital projects for the region that are planned in collaboration with our strategic partners.” As part of the Forum’s agenda, Mr. Mohamed Ebrahim Al Hosani, Director of Regional Development at the Western Region Development Council, will familiarize attendees with the legislative frameworks that are in place and will provide an overview of the key priority sectors in Al Gharbia. The forum also includes a B2B session titled Design your Project: Build a Commercial Business Case’ hosted by WRDC, the Urban Planning Council (UPC) and the Western Region Municipality (WRM). This session will feature topics on developing a feasibility study for particular projects in specific sectors. Recommendations and advice will be shared on what is required to execute a particular project and what involvement is required from the private sector. WRDC will showcase its contribution to the private sector at each stage of the design phase right through to the execution phase.

The Al Gharbia Development Forum will bring together high level government representatives and entities, including the Department of Economic Development (DED), the Abu Dhabi Tourism and Culture Authority (ADTCA), the Abu Dhabi National Oil Company (ADNOC), Abu Dhabi Education Council (ADEC), Musanada, the Industrial Development Bureau (IDB), The Emirates Nuclear Energy Corporation (ENEC) and the Department of Municipal Affairs (DMA), among many others – in addition to the region’s private sector developers and businesses.

All projects that will be announced during the forum, are part of the first implementation phase of “Plan Al Gharbia 2030” which includes policies and development priorities in addition to the general framework for infrastructure and services, and comprehensive plans for each city.
