In Saudi Arabia, rallying has transcended traditional sport to become a cultural phenomenon deeply rooted in the Kingdom’s desert identity, representing not just a race but a spirit of resilience and a unique challenge against the vast dunes and open plains of the Arabian Peninsula.
The journey began in Hail Region, the historic cradle of Saudi motorsports. In 2006, Hail hosted the Kingdom’s first organized car rally, sparking a nationwide passion for the sport. By 2008, the event achieved international status through recognition by the Fédération Internationale de l’Automobile (FIA), cementing Hail’s position on the global racing map.
For nearly 20 years, the Great Nafud Desert has served as the ultimate proving ground for the Saudi Baja championships. This rugged environment has fostered a comprehensive motorsports ecosystem, supported by world-class infrastructure and a talented new generation of Saudi drivers.
The Kingdom’s motorsports journey reached its pinnacle in 2020 when it became the host of the Dakar Rally, the world’s most grueling endurance race. Saudi Arabia’s diverse landscape has proven to be the ideal setting for Dakar’s technical and organizational demands.
As the 2026 edition unfolds, the rally continues to highlight the human dimension of the sport, sharing stories of courage, resilience, and the unbreakable solidarity between drivers, navigators, and support teams.
