The Tower at the heart of the Dubai Creek Harbour mega development will rise 100 metres above Burj Khalifa, the world’s tallest building.
Emaar Properties chairman Mohamed Alabbar confirmed in a television interview with CNN that the spectacular Santiago Calatrava-designed monument will outstrip its 830 metre counterpart across the creek by some distance.
Previously Emaar had said the Tower would be a mere ‘notch’ above Burj Khalifa but clearly the developer has revised that plan.
Foundation work on the $1bn Tower is scheduled to begin next month, Mr Alabbar said in the interview, though the identity of the construction contractors involved have yet to be revealed.
At more than twice the size of Downtown, the six square kilometre Dubai Creek Harbour is destined to be the next major stage of the emirate’s unrelenting development alongside Dubai South and the nearby Expo 2020 site.
The Tower, which is due to be ready in time for the exhibition, will sit at the centre of a 500 metre diameter plaza surrounded by what is sure to become some of the hottest property on the planet.
The Tower will be held in place by giant cables on a scale never seen before.
