In implementation of directives given by H.H. Sheikha Fatima bint Mubarak, Chairwoman of the U.A.E. General Women’s Union (GWU) and the Extraordinary Ambassador of the UN Food and Agriculture Organisation (FAO), Noura Al Suwaidi, the Director of GWU, and Abdu bin Qasim Al Osairi, former FAO sub-regional Office Coordinator for the GCC States and Yemen and FAO Representative in the UAE, signed a memorandum of understanding on empowerment of women in agriculture.
The MoU will enable Emirati women gain access to job market through establishment of agricultural and food projects and food industries.
Noura Al Salaiti, National Coordinator of Women’s Empowerment Project, stated that FAO, on its part, will offer its http://www.staging.businesstoday.me/wp-content/uploads/2022/12/sample10.jpgistrative and technical expertise in capacity building in areas of launching Small and medium enterprises (SMEs), while the GWU will provide financial and logistic support to the multi-phase project.
She said that nine training workshops would be conducted to train 225 women across the U.A.E. through a partnership between government and non-government organisations and the Emiri Court in Fujairah.
The premise of the project is based on encouraging women to start up their own businesses and develop already existing trade, agricultural, and food industries projects. Through interactive approach, women will also learn about concepts of entrepreneurship and Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities and Threats (SWOT) as well as unlock their leadership skills and talent.
