The MoU was signed in GCAA headquarter in Abu Dhabi by Saif Mohammed Al Suwaidi, GCAA Director General, and Mohamed Al Ghanim, TRA Director General.

The MoU between both parties provides a mutually agreed framework for cooperation between the GCAA and the TRA at a national level. The agreement also encompasses working arrangement with the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) and the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) to coordinate aeronautical spectrum services.

Al Suwaidi said: “GCAA is keen to work closely with the TRA to ensure the aeronautical spectrum services safely meet the needs of airports, airlines, Air Navigation Service Providers and the Search and Rescue organizations in order to achieve our vision of leading safe, secure and sustainable civil aviation system in UAE.” Al Ghanim said during the signing “”The provision of fast, reliable and, above all, safe connectivity is an absolute must for the airline industry and the signing of this memorandum of understanding is a signal of intent, from all parties involved, to work collaboratively towards this end. In the pursuit of global excellence, the ICT systems in place that the UAE airline industry relies on must be of the highest possible standard. With that in mind, the TRA looks forward to working closely with GCAA, ITU and ICAO to guaranteeing that alongside other services, the aeronautical spectrum available to the industry is among the most advanced in the world.” Part of the agreement is also to ensure that the aeronautical spectrum services comply with international standards and best practices and ensure both GCAA and TRA are aware of the needs of the UAE aviation stakeholders to act upon requests for improvement. Stakeholders include a wide range of organizations such as Air traffic services units; Search and rescue services units; Airlines; Airports; and others concerned with the conduct or development of international air navigation.

At the end of signing ceremony GCAA and TRA reaffirmed their commitment to maintain a cooperation approach and continuing consultation on a regular basis.
