The first meeting of GCC Ministers of Social Affair began here today.
HE the Minister of Labour and Social Affairs Dr. Abdullah Saleh Mubarak Al Khulaifi headed Qatar delegation to the meeting.

In a keynote speech, Kuwaiti Minister of Social Affairs and Labor and Minister of State for Planning and Development Hind Al-Sabeeh said the meeting aims to continue commitment to creating a better future for Gulf societies and carry on social efforts in all fields.

There are swift worldwide changes and variables that block development in world countries, including the GCC ones so more work and coordination need to be carried out in order to achieve sustainable development, democracy and justice, she said.

The agenda of the meeting includes a host of significant and weighty issues and subjects that reflect the organizing committee’ interest in light of changes, mainly boosting women’s social involvement and improving children’s conditions, she added.

The agenda also includes a ministerial committee to follow up on the implementation of resolutions adopted by the GCC Supreme Council, together with the approval of a single charter as a regulative framework for the committee’s work, she said.
The Kuwaiti minister hoped that the meeting would come up with concrete recommendations that would fulfill the expectations and hopes of the GCC people.

On his part, GCC Secretary-General Abdullatif Al-Zayani said the GCC ministerial council decided at a meeting in Jeddah in June 2013 to set up four ministerial committees in the fields of health, education, labor and social affairs in order to promote and develop inter-Gulf cooperation in all fields.
He hoped that such committees would be an additional step on the way for developing and reinforcing coordination among the six GCC member states in the domain of social development.

Several social achievements have been made over recent years thanks to relentless efforts and fervent work, Al-Zayani pointed out.
The GCC chief spoke highly of the vital role of the member states’ ministries of health in the fulfillment of the needs of Gulf families.
