Dubai Customs, DC, hosted a business meeting with companies chosen to execute the Virtual Corridor project to introduce them to the systems and procedures that will be put in place for optimal utilisation of this vibrant project.
The meeting was attended by Abdullah Al Khaja, Executive Director of Customer Management Division at Dubai Customs, and Saeed Ahmed Al Tayer, Acting Executive Director of Policies and Legislation Division at Dubai Customs.
Organised by the Customer Management department in partnership with the Customs Tariff and Origin Department and Business Process Department at Dubai Customs, the meeting was a unique opportunity for DC officials to present the project of goods movement between Customs centres in the Emirate of Dubai using the Virtual Corridor.
The Virtual Corridor enables the movement of goods among handling authorities and shipping agencies in seaports and airports using faster, easier, simpler and more cost-effective customs procedures. Accordingly, cargo will be moved in shortest possible time, not exceeding four hours, without the need for clients to submit any cash bond or bank guarantees. Dubai Customs will grant clients a virtual financial guarantee for each consignment to be transferred between Customs centres in Dubai.
As such, the Virtual Corridor will increase the speed of cargo handling, especially transit goods between Dubai’s seaports and airports. Expedited cargo handling coupled with the exemption from financial guarantees will further facilitate the flow of transit cargos and reduce their costs.
Abdullah Al Khaja, Executive Director of Customer Management Division at Dubai Customs, said, “In line with its commitment to providing top services and facilitations to customers, Dubai Customs developed the Virtual Corridor project to enable traders and investors to optimise their business returns in Dubai.” He continued, “The Virtual Corridor project complements the long chain of facilitations DC offers to its customers to bring more added value to their business operations by cutting down time and cost for doing business. The project will boost Dubai’s competitiveness as a multimodal transportation and logistics hub and will enable Dubai to attract traders from around the world, enhancing Dubai’s position in global trade and logistics markets.” The policy of the creation of Virtual Freight and Logistics Corridors, approved by the Executive Council, is part of the package of policies and the strategy presented by the Department of Economic Development in cooperation with Dubai Customs, on behalf of the joint stakeholder collaboration platform, which includes other government departments as well as private sector partners. These policies will upgrade Dubai’s business environment and reduce time and cost for doing business in trade and logistics.
