The UAE’s Higher Committee for Hosting the 2020 World Expo in Dubai, held a meeting on Tuesday 1st October chaired by H.H. Sheikh Ahmad bin Saeed Al Maktoum, President of the Dubai Civil Aviation Authority, Chairman and Chief Executive of Emirates Airline and Group, and Chairman of the Higher Committee for Hosting the 2020 World Expo in Dubai.

The Higher Committee reviewed final preparations for the Dubai Expo 2020 Theme Symposium which takes place from 22nd-24th October 2013, just one month ahead of the final vote to elect the host city on 27th November 2013, an event of profound importance. The objective of the symposium is to discuss the importance and global relevance of the proposed Dubai Expo 2020 theme: Connecting Minds, Creating the Future.

In attendance will be over 200 representatives of the 167 member nations of the Bureau International des Expositions (BIE) – the inter-governmental organisation responsible for World Expo – including country ambassadors and delegates.

Plans for the two-day event were discussed in detail by the Higher Committee to ensure participants have an opportunity to explore the new types of partnerships and innovations that could be created by Dubai Expo 2020 across the main drivers of global development, as represented by the sub-themes of Mobility, Sustainability and Opportunity.

The Higher Committee expressed its appreciation to the local and federal government and business entities for their unstinting support and work with Dubai Expo 2020 to allow delegates to experience first-hand the many unique advantages the country has to offer as a potential host nation.

In attendance were Mohammed Ibrahim Al Shaibani, Director-General of His Highness the Ruler’s Court of Dubai, who serves as Deputy Chairman, Reem Al Hashimy, UAE Minister of State and the Committee’s Managing Director, Mattar Mohammed Al Tayer, Chairman of the Roads and Transport Authority, Eng. Hussain Nasser Lootah, Director-General of Dubai Municipality, and Helal Saeed Al Marri, Director-General of Dubai Department of Tourism and Commerce Marketing and CEO of Dubai World Trade Centre and Major General Khamis Mutar Al Muzainah, Deputy Commander-General of Dubai Police.
