YES to Work initiative, a rewarding work experience for every young Emiratis in implementation of the Absher Initiative, launched by His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, the President of the U.A.E., will tomorrow roll out its third edition for the summer vacation 2014 which will involve around 1000 students and dozens partners in different work locations in Abu Dhabi, Al Ain and Dubai.

In support of the Absher initiative to provide all means of stability and welfare for U.A.E. citizens by enhancing their participation in the labor market, especially the private sector, the Abu Dhabi Centre for Technical and vocational Education and Training Institutes (ADVETI) promotes the YES to Work Initiative to reinforce the Emirati youth employability and create opportunities for lifelong learning. The YES to Work Initiative is an integrated part of ACTVET s programs and is planned to kick off each summer and winter during the school break.

Under the patronage of H.H. Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Presidential Affairs, the third edition of YES to Work takes place from 10 to 28 August. The 18-day programme provides students with the chance to gain professional experience employment in a real work environment and acquire specific knowledge by attending a course in retail services.

Mubarak Saeed Al Shamsi, Deputy Director of ACTVET and Chairman of the initiative’s higher organising committee, stated the His Highness General Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the U.A.E. Armed Forces, had directed all the authorities concerned to implement instructions of the wise leadership to enable state institutions to assume their national role in regards to employment of Emiratis in the private sector.

He lauded Sheikh Mansour for his proper care for the initiative, being one of the most important, influential initiatives that meets requirements of the U.A.E. strategic plan 2021 and Abu Dhabi Vision 2030.

This year, he said, the initiative will expand to include Western Region in addition to Abu Dhabi, Al Ain and Dubai.

”The third edition of the initiative promotes the role of young Emiratis to pay back to their nation and wise leadership. It also seeks to instill in them the values of work, responsibility and loyalty to their nation and help them gains professional experiences and skills in early stages of their life,” he added.

Ali Mohammed Al Marzouqie, member of the higher organising committee, said the third cycle had seen significant turn out, attracting 1300 young men and women of whom 950 had been qualified. Some 410 youth participated in the July 13-17 training programme. The week-long training session prepares the student for the work placement and provides them with basics of management of retail services.

As for the work placement, the students will start the internship by working for five hours a day with thirty minutes break (e.g. from 10:30 am till 3:30 pm) morning or evening shift. Students will be able to gain experience in the following professional areas: sales, customer service, stock replenishment, beauty consultants and others.

YES to Work aims to: Build the capacity of skilled Emirati youth; Encourage young Emiratis to work in the private sector; Empower young Emiratis by providing them with specific knowledge, skills and best practice through job shadowing, training and apprenticeship programs; Include national talents in the private sector s market place; Inform nationals of the range of opportunities available outside the public sector and the government.
