AW23 KOLLEKTION:DESIGN YOU CAN FEEL

Oversized silhouettes, textural beauty and a new storage direction, discover the hero statement pieces of BoConcept’s sensorial new Kollektion

For the AW23 season, BoConcept is asking, how does great design make you feel? Home is our most important space to recharge, express ourselves and provide protection from an increasingly uncertain world. “With the new Kollektion we lean into the power of design to bring a feeling of deep satisfaction”, says Collections and Visuals Director Claus Ditlev Jensen. “The new pieces are designed to bring sensorial pleasure into the everyday.”

The trend landscape signals that we are in a polycrisis era. This has increased the desire for calming spaces and comforting products that maximise emotional and physical wellbeing: home as sanctuary. And with WGSN citing 72.8% of people globally feeling anxious about issues ranging from the environment to the cost-of-living crisis, it’s perhaps not surprising to learn they are craving deep comfort.

From BoConcept’s new Kollektion, the oversized proportions of the Salamanca sofa respond directly to this desire for next level comfort. Meanwhile, the Santiago dining table reinforces the current trend towards organic, sculptural shapes and tactile materials that also have a soothing effect. The other big story comes with Calgary that taps into the huge appetite for inspiring storage (WGSN’s trend report sites 3m+ posts for #storage on Instagram and more than 22.1m views for storage solutions on TikTok).

The ‘Buy Less, buy better’ mindset also continues to frame consumer appetite for long-lasting materials and timeless styles. With this in mind, the Santiago dining and coffee tables feature hard-wearing ceramic tops, whilst the Calgary is a piece designed to evolve over the years as the consumer discovers new keepsakes to display or even wishes to adapt its usage to a different room or function. Find out more about the new pieces below.

Lounge deeply with Salamanca

“Salamanca is very big, very soft and very comfortable. It’s designed not to live with but to live in. There is no strict system to this bohemian style – play around with the cushions, find your favourite position and chill.”

Henrik Pederson, designer

New for AW23 is Salamanca, designed by Henrik Pedersen. “This season we continued to focus on soft aesthetics underlined with tactile fabrics but with the Salamanca we take comfort to the next level”, says Ditlev Jensen.

With a 1970s bohemian feel, Salamanca is a low and ‘floating’ lounge sofa with oversized proportions designed for really kicking back. “With Salamanca we offer a more casual, cosy family sofa”, says Ditlev Jensen. Comforting curves meet a square shape to create what Pedersen describes as a “cushion box”.

With freestanding or modular versions available, the design also allows for customisation and flexibility with the moveable cushions. So how deep does it go? The super soft seats boast a unit depth of 112cm. Keeping with the ‘ultra comfort’ theme, the seats are crafted with a foam core in two different densities to create maximum seating comfort, too.

Dine differently with Santiago

“There are no straight lines with Santiago. The panels are curved and the vast ceramic top is transmitting an organic feel. Everything is like nature.”

Morten Georgsen, designer

Where beauty and functionality meet, the new Santiago dining table makes an elegant statement piece for people who love to entertain. Designed by Morten Georgsen, this simple yet striking design will appeal to customers who love clean lines and upscale finishes. “Living room and dining room are one now in a lot of houses”, says Georgsen. “We have torn down the walls and what does that mean? It means we have room for a bigger dining table because that is where we are with our friends and family.”

The oval-shaped top comes in durable and hardwearing ceramic, available in white, brown and AshGrey. “The natural expression of the ceramic really comes into its own on a large surface like this”, says Ditlev Jensen. The glossy top is combined with bevelled pillar-style legs available in Dark Oak and AshGrey. “The clean lines and organic shapes make a stylish statement.”

The Santiago is available in two different sizes – 230cm and 180cm. And this roomy size means you can have six or eight chairs for everyday use plus extra space for social occasions. Santiago coffee tables are also available.

Express yourself with Calgary

“The Calgary system is a contemporary storage and display system for how we live now. It brings together versatile functionality with a lightness of expression and beautiful proportions.”

Morten Georgsen, designer

Discreet desk, mini bar, stylish storage – discover the art of display with Calgary.

“Since BoConcept first opened in 1952, traditional bookcases have been in our product portfolio”, says Ditlev Jensen. “The designs have been adjusted from time to time, but we are now at a point where we welcome a new storage direction. Calgary is so much more than storage.”

With the growing trend towards consumers showcasing their individual style and identity through interiors, Calgary is a versatile storage system that fuses aesthetics with functionality. “Consumers are still looking to refurnish and re-organise their homes as part of general home improvement projects after the pandemic”, says Ditlev Jensen. “Simple yet sophisticated, the design allows you to curate belongings with open storage that elevates its contents.”

The Calgary system is customisable without being overwhelming – it comes in seven fixed models (with high and low, and wide or narrow versions) that can be used in all areas of the home. There are options for drop-down covered storage, shelves at customisable depths, and drawers. “Or you can select a multifunctional set-up with integrated home office or bar, depending on your priorities!”, says Ditlev Jensen. The metal rails come in AshGrey and Matt Black, the inserts in AshGrey, Natural Oak and Dark Oak, allowing for a variety of finishes.

What else is new for AW23?

Other noteworthy new additions to the Kollection this season are intuitive updates to existing pieces. Continuing the growing need for stylish furniture that works in smaller living spaces, the bestselling Kingston dining table has been updated in a smaller version with a fixed tabletop, which comes at a very competitive entry level price, too. For the Bergamo sofa, there is now an additional 1.5 seat option to meet the need for more compact combinations.

AW23 also brings new material and colour additions further increasing the opportunities for customisation. Dusty Green, Dark Oak and AshGrey have been introduced as new finishes across the Lugano and Como shelving systems. A new white ceramic joins the bronze-effect brown ceramic that was introduced for SS23, tapping into the consumer appetite for durable, quality materials. The white ceramic has the same polished marble finish as its brown counterpart, which lends a luxurious look and feel. It is also resistant to everyday wear and tear (such as scratching, heat and staining) thanks to its strength and minimal porosity.

For upholstery, Tuscany is new for AW23 – a woven jacquard chenille fabric that has a cosy tactile finish. It comes in seven shades and its rich, layered texture gives each piece a unique colour mix. Meanwhile, the sumptuous Napoli velvet fabric will now be available in the new Dusty Green shade as well as an earthy Sand shade; Lazio will add a cooler Grey tone to its repertoire; and Bresso adds Green to increase options for customers looking to update their homes for the new season.
