Russian second seed Daniil Medvedev broke the dream of Serbian Novak Djokovic, the world number one, to win 4 major titles and set the record for the number of Grand Slam titles in one year, by defeating him 6-4, 6-4, 6-4 in the US Open final at the Flushing Meadows, New

The title is the first big one for the Russian.

Djokovic has previously won four major titles in a row, but not in a year, and that’s when he won the French Open title in 2016, adding him to Wimbledon and Flushing Meadows titles 2015 and the 2016 Australian Open.

Medvedev lost the 2019 US Open final to Rafael Nadal.

On the other hand, the Serbian failed to win the championship for the fourth time in his career, and he also failed to hold the record for the number of major titles he currently shares with the two legends Nadal and Swiss Roger Federer, each of whom has 20 major

“I’m sorry for the fans and for Novak because we all knew what he wanted to achieve in this match,” Medvedev said after his victory.

The Russian praised his opponent, saying, “What you have achieved in your career for me makes you the best player in the history of the game.

“It was not easy to win against a player like Djokovic,” he added.

Djokovic replied, “Congratulations to Daniil. A great match. If there is a player who deserves to win a big title, it is you.”

Djokovic directed a special thanks to the spectators who encouraged him throughout the match, and it was clear that he was their favorite to win, and said in this regard, “I would like to say that despite my loss, my heart is full of joy and I am the happiest person thanks to you who made me feel like a special player on the field. ”

Medvedev played one of the best matches of his career to emerge victorious and to end the run of Djokovic, who defeated him in the Australian Championship final last February.

About 23,000 spectators watched the match, led by the most prominent Hollywood movie stars, led by Brad Pitt and Leonardo DiCaprio.
