His Highness Dr Sheikh Sultan Bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah, has raised the minimum salary for Emiratis in Sharjah to Dhs25,000 — up from Dhs17,500 at present.

The increase is 43%. The increase comes in the wake of a Sharjah government study that analyses the living standards of citizens. “We raised salaries to Dh25,000 after conducting studies with the Department of Social Services,” Sheikh Sultan said on Sharjah Media Office’s Twitter account. This stems from his desire to provide a decent standard of living for members of society.

Sheikh Sultan said, “There are employees who resigned for different reasons, and others who were dismissed, and I will not let them down. In addition, there are the married women who aspire to work and I will do everything possible for them.”

He explained, “We raised the salaries to Dhs25,000, after conducting studies with the Social Services Department. I examined all the details of the individual and family expenses in order to know how much salary will provide a decent life,” Sultan added.

“In case living expenses increase, we will conduct a new study to make salaries commensurate with life’s requirements. If low-paid employees are affected, I will not let them down.”

On Sunday, Sheikh Sultan approved Dhs51,907,000 to settle 99 cases for citizens in the emirate in various categories, as part of its 20th group of payments, to be presented to the Sharjah Debt Settlement Committee.

The move is to be carried out, in keeping with the directives of the Sharjah Ruler, to provide a stable and decent life for its citizens. Rashid Ahmed Bin Al Sheikh, Chief of the Sharjah Emiri Court and Head of the Committee, said the committee had approved clearing the debts of people in various categories. “The total amount processed since the first payments is Dhs786,786,153 for 1,576 beneficiaries,” he added.

Last week, Sheikh Sultan issued Emiri Decree No. (7) of 2021 amending Emiri Decree No. (20) of 2019 regarding the restructuring of the Sharjah Urban Planning Council (SUPC). The new Emiri Decree stipulates that the new SUPC Board of Directors will be chaired by Sheikh Sultan Bin Mohammed Bin Sultan Al Qasimi, Crown Prince, Deputy Ruler of Sharjah and Chairman of Sharjah Executive Council, with Sheikh Sultan Bin Mohammed Bin Saud Al Qasimi as Vice Chairman and Director of the Council.
