The Qatar Development Fund (QDF) and the Carter Center have signed a framework partnership agreement specifying common areas of action and the general principles for the management of initiatives and activities between the two parties, and identifying the vision and common goals.
The agreement was signed for the QDF by Executive Director Ali Abdullah Al Dabbagh and for the Carter Center by Director of Special Health Projects Stephen Blount. It aims at following-up and finding opportunities for cooperation to control diseases, implement activities to develop health care in the countries of strategic importance to both sides. The agreement allows, as well, the exchange of experiences and useful information to achieve the goals of sustainable development. The Carter Center will provide its technical expertise in the health sector and treatment of diseases, while the Qatar Development Fund will give various forms of support to the health sector in poor and developing countries in order to achieve one of the most important goals of sustainable development.
The agreement also seeks to facilitate access to bilateral and multilateral partnerships as well as to the parties of interest to both sides, in addition to the exchange of information on related projects as well as the promotion of this partnership at the global level in order to encourage other parties to engage in development activities. The framework partnership agreement is valid for 5 years, renewable.
The agreement signing was attended by Director General of Qatar Fund for Development Khalifa Jassim Al Kuwari and Chief Development Officer at The Carter Center Curtis Kohlhaas, among others.
Qatar Development Fund (QDF) is a Qatari public organization established and organized pursuant to Law Number 19 of 2002 as amended and established under the laws of the State of Qatar. QDF was envisioned and articulated as an independent body to coordinate and implement foreign assistance on behalf of the State of Qatar. As such, QDF will serve as the “face” and brand of Qatar’s foreign assistance efforts. QDF, through representing the State of Qatar, aims at helping Arab countries and other developing countries to develop their economies and implement development programs by providing loans, grants and technical assistance for the economic and social development of these countries. In addition, QDF aims at contributing to the capital of development finance institutions and other international and foreign development institutions that aim at helping developing countries in the development of their economies.
The Carter Center was founded in 1982 by former U.S. President Jimmy Carter and his wife, Rosalynn, in partnership with Emory University, to advance peace and health worldwide. A nongovernmental organization, the Center has helped to improve life for people in more than 80 countries by resolving conflicts; advancing democracy, human rights, and economic opportunity; preventing diseases; improving mental health care; and teaching farmers to increase crop production.
