On the occasion of Emirati Women’s Day, the Emirates Group is celebrating the achievements of women who are making a positive difference to the nation in their diverse roles, particularly amidst the challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic. Their commitment and unwavering efforts are helping to keep Dubai and the world connected through commercial aviation, as the Emirates and dnata gradually restore passenger and cargo operations that facilitate repatriation and transport vital supplies to and through the UAE.

The Emirates Group has come together to thank its female Emirati workforce, who collectively demonstrate the qualities and skills that will drive forward the UAE’s vision, and its journey towards the next 50 years of development.

Abdulaziz Al Ali, Emirates Group Executive Vice President Human Resources said: “Women play a vital role in supporting the UAE’s development, and their passion and skills will continue to help drive the nation’s success. The theme of this year’s celebration is in line with the UAE’s aspirations to prepare for the next 50 years and women are hugely instrumental in shaping our collective future. At the Emirates Group, we will continue to provide a nurturing environment that supports the fresh perspectives and ideas of women, and champions their efforts and career goals in the workplace.”

Maryam Bin Ismail, Emirates’ Boeing 777 First Officer said: “The beginning of the pandemic was very challenging. We took all precautionary measures to protect the health and safety of all those on board, including being tested for COVID-19 after every flight we operated. We also had to go through self-quarantine for 14 days after returning from each flight to ensure the safety and health of ourselves and our communities. There were many new procedures and adjustments that we had to make at work and in our personal lives. These experiences taught me that Emirati women are important pillars of UAE society, can achieve their goals, and there is no limit to what a woman can accomplish.”

Dr. Monyah Alsuwaidi, Family Medicine Specialist at the Emirates Group clinic said: “The first day of my self-quarantine due to being exposed to a positive COVID-19 case made this pandemic all too real. The challenges that the whole world is facing today should inspire us to collaborate more closely together to confront this virus and safeguard the health and welfare of our families and communities. We should face it with all the power and knowledge that we have, work as one cohesive team to overcome these exceptional circumstances and we are truly blessed to live in a country that is sparing no resources to fight COVID-19. The UAE will emerge from this crisis stronger than ever.”

Alsuwaidi added: “I am very proud to serve during difficult times. Emirati women are empowered and unstoppable to achieve our goals because we have a deep sense of awareness and responsibility, and we are being continuously tested during these extraordinary times and we will win.”

Emirati women have achieved continuous success in recent years, and have become an integral part of the workforce at the Emirates Group. They are a part of a larger community of women that currently account for 40% of the Emirates Group workforce and have a strong presence in operational, management, and support services.
