RasGas Company Limited (RasGas) last week delivered the 1000th liquefied natural gas (LNG) cargo to Petronet LNG Limited (Petronet) under the Long Term Sales and Purchase Agreement (SPA) with RasGas.
The 1000th LNG cargo delivered to Petronet was loaded on board the LNG vessel “Disha” at Ras Laffan Port on 22nd December, 2014. Coincidentally, the same ship also loaded the inaugural LNG cargo on 25th Jan 2004 under the same SPA on her maiden voyage from Ras Laffan port to Petronet LNG Dahej Terminal.
“This successful delivery of the 1000th LNG cargo marks a significant milestone in our long-standing relationship with Petronet and comes as a further testimony of RasGas being a safe and reliable supplier of LNG jointly with our partner Petronet for the Indian market. As an important supplier of LNG to India, RasGas will continue to provide its support in meeting India’s growing economy and demand for cleaner energy in the form of LNG”, said Khalid Sultan R. Al Kuwari, RasGas’ Chief Marketing and Shipping Officer.
In commemoration of the delivery of this 1000th LNG cargo, RasGas hosted a special ceremony onboard the LNG vessel “Disha” and presented the Master of the LNG vessel “Disha” Capt. Rakesh Jhang and his crew with a memento to mark the special occasion. The event was attended by Capt. Khaled Djebbar, and Capt. Sreenivas Penumarti, from the RasGas Marketing and Shipping Group.
This Long Term LNG Sale and Purchase Agreement between RasGas and Petronet was signed in July, 1999 for 7.5 million tonnes per year (MTA) for 25 years. RasGas has delivered over nine million tonnes of LNG to India in 2014.
Petronet currently operates the Dahej and Kochi LNG terminals on India’s west and south coasts each with a capacity of 10 MTA and 5 MTA respectively. Petronet meets approximately 30% of the country’s gas demand.
RasGas is a Qatari joint stock company established in 2001 by Qatar Petroleum and ExxonMobil RasGas Inc. RasGas acts as the operating company for and on behalf of the owners of the liquefied natural gas (LNG) projects RL, RL (II) and RL3 (Project Owners).
