Ahmed Mahboob Musabih, Director of Dubai Customs, DC, has praised the development of trade cooperation with Oman, affirming that DC supports the economic and trade relationship between the UAE and the Sultanate of Oman.
He said this during his visit to the Commercial Office of Sultanate of Oman in Dubai, where he was received by Salem Muslim Samhan Al Kathiry, Manager of the Commercial Office of Sultanate of Oman in Dubai.
The two sides held a meeting in the presence of Faisal Eissa Lutfi, Acting Director of International Affairs, Dubai Customs and Ms. Saba Al-Mussa, Manager of Marketing and Information, Commercial Office of Sultanate of Oman in Dubai.
During the meeting, they discussed ways to support cooperation and coordination between Dubai Customs and the Commercial Office of Sultanate of Oman in Dubai to develop the trade between the United Arab Emirates and Sultanate of Oman by providing the best customs facilities for development of trade between the GCC States according to the objectives of the Customs Union for GCC States.
Both parties also discussed the necessary procedures for developing the traffic of commercial trucks across the borders of the two countries through Hatta border customs center and monitor the traffic of trucks using intelligent technologies.
“We are committed to providing the best customs facilities and services for trade with the Sultanate of Oman, in the light of the instructions of Vice President and Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, to support the success of the Customs Union for GCC States and achieve its objectives,” said Ahmed Mahboob Musabih.
“The value of the trade between Dubai and Sultanate of Oman in 2013 reached AED19 billion, i.e., more than twice as the value of the trade between Dubai and Oman in 2010 which amounted to AED6 billion. In 9 months, starting from January to September 2014, the value of trade reached AED16 billion,” he added.
“We are pleased to provide traders and investors from the Sultanate of Oman with our developed smart customs services available 24/7 through smart phones and watches, saving the time and efforts of providing services for the best interest of customers choosing Dubai as the base of their commercial operations,” said Mr. Ahmed Mahboob Musabih.
Al Kathiry stated that the Office appreciates the efforts of Dubai Customs for the development of trade with the Sultanate of Oman.
“We are proud that the Sultanate of Oman opened the first foreign commercial office in Dubai in the 1960s. The mutual trade has developed steadily over the last decades thanks to the strong relationship and near geographical location of the Sultanate of Oman and the United Arab Emirates and the Emirate of Dubai.” “Dubai is one of the most important trade hubs that Omani companies are interested to use as a base for their trade and investment in several areas of the world. There are approximately 500 Omani companies operating in Dubai in various fields of trade and investment. Therefore, our Commercial Office is committed to organizing the Omani business community in Dubai to ensure the support of communications between Omani companies and all government and private departments and institutions in the Emirate for enhancing the economic relationships between Oman and the UAE. In the near future, the Omani Business Council shall be established to coordinate between the Omani companies and various departments of the Emirate,” according to Mr. Al Kathiry.
