Qatar Rail Hosts Workshop on Qatar National Datum

Qatar Railways Company (Qatar Rail) has organized a workshop on the importance of applying the Qatar National Datum (QND95), a comprehensive geodetic datum for topographic mapping used as a spatial reference system in the state of Qatar.

Held in cooperation with the Ministry of Municipality and Urban Planning’s Centre for Geographic Information Systems (CGIS) and the Building Permit Complex Department (BPCD), the workshop came as part of Qatar Rail’s ongoing coordination with its governmental stakeholders towards adopting the highest standards in all its projects phases.

The workshop included discussions on the importance of dealing with Qatar National Datum QND95, a clarification about the datum specifications, the difference between Level of Zero and QND95 as well as the problems of using Zero Level elevations. “Qatar Rail projects fall under the strategic Qatar National Vision 2030 developed by our country’s wise leadership with the aim of turning Qatar into one of the most advanced states at the global level.

In our company, we are keen to comply with the highest standards in all areas related to our works, and the QND95, being the official system adopted by the state, is one to which our company shows commitment,” Eng. Hassan Ahmed Al Marwani, senior technical interface manager at Qatar Rail, said.  “The workshop was of high importance and marked by great success in relation to eliminating any confusion for stakeholders and consultant offices over QND95. We thank everyone for their efforts, and we look forward to more cooperation with the Ministry of Urban Planning and all affiliates concerned in our projects,” he added.

For his part, Eng. Mubarak Al Naeimi, BPCD manager, said: “We are holding this workshop out of necessity for all engineering consulting offices to fulfill the standardized QND95 in all their submitted plans and drawings. In the future, we are preparing to issue a circulation to all Engineering consulting offices to comply with the QND95 system and to submit the Drawings according to that for any Project falling inside Qatar Rail protection zone.” The event was marked by the distinguished presence of more than 200 representatives from the consulting offices as well as representatives of the Ministry of Municipality and Urban Planning who shared valuable thoughts with all partners.
