Sixty U.A.E. SMEs to participate in 2014 Canton Fair

More than sixty U.A.E. small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) will tap diverse opportunities offered by China’s economy as well as other foreign markets when they participate in Canton Fair 2014, the 116th edition of China Import and Export Fair, the Ministry of Economy has said.

The participation of the U.A.E. businesses in China’s largest biannual trade fair is being facilitated by a 4-day programme which will see visits, meetings and workshops at the fair and enable their representatives to look into, and tap new opportunities offered by different economic sectors.

Assistant Undersecretary for Foreign Trade Affairs at the Ministry of Economy, Juma Mohammed Al Kait, said the programme which organised by the ministry in collaboration with Khalifa Fund for Enterprise Development and Abu Dhabi Department of Economic Development (ADDED) will give the participating businesspersons the opportunity to get a first-hand experience of successful SME experiences in particular, in order to enhance their contribution to the U.A.E. economy.

Al Kait was speaking during a meeting with representatives of the ministry’s two national strategic partners and the Embassy of China in Abu Dhabi to discuss preparations for the programme for SMEs’ participation in 2014 Canton Fair which in its autumn session runs in three phases between15 October-4 November in Guangzhou City on a total indoor and outdoor exhibition area of up to 1.18 million square meters.

The Ministry of Economy says non-oil trade between U.A.E. and China grew by 13 percent from US$34.1 billion in 2012 to reach US$38.5 billion in 2013.

At the meeting, trade advisors of the Chinese Embassy noted that U.A.E. is China’s top trading partner in the middle East and serves as a gateway for Chinese exports to the region and to Africa.
