The sister city agreement between Abu Dhabi and Brisbane, the capital and largest city in the State of Queensland, Australia, was renewed on Thursday during a meeting between Sheikh Nahyan bin Mubarak Al Nahyan, Minister of Culture, Youth and Community Development, and Lord Mayor of Brisbane, Graham Quirk, who is leading a high-level delegation on a current visit to U.A.E.
At the meeting which took place at Sheikh Nahyan’s palace in the presence of Australia’s Ambassador to U.A.E., Pablo Kang, the two sides also explored opportunities for joint investments between the two countries, ways of bolstering their partnership and their bilateral economic, investment and trade relations.
Abu Dhabi and Brisbane signed their sister city agreement in Abu Dhabi on 2 February 2009.
In his remarks at the meeting, Sheikh Nahyan affirmed that U.A.E. has an excellent economic environment which contributes to economic integration. He also noted that U.A.E. is keenly interested in opening up to the rest of the world for cooperation in various spheres.
Sheikh Nahyan explained that the emirate of Abu Dhabi provides a favourable economic climate for businesspersons and companies in order to boost its local economy.
On their part, the members of the 35-strong Australian delegation hailed the comprehensive development in U.A.E. led by President His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan and the country’s regional and international distinguished stature.
